What it does: Net salary estimator
This calculator estimates your take-home pay in Spain from your gross annual salary by subtracting Social Security contributions and an approximate income tax (IRPF) withholding. Every assumption and step is shown so you know where each number comes from.
It is only a guide: your actual payslip depends on your personal and family situation, your region and your contract. If you know your withholding percentage, enter it for a closer result.
How to use it
- Enter the gross annual salary from your contract or job offer.
- Choose 12 payments (pro-rated) or 14 (with two extra payments).
- Leave the withholding on “Estimate it” or enter the one from your payslip.
- Review the breakdown and the assumptions before making decisions.
Examples
Comparing job offers
Enter each offer's gross salary with the same number of payments to compare the monthly take-home pay.
12 or 14 payments
Annual net pay is the same; with 14 payments each month is smaller but you get two extra payments.
Limits, formulas and assumptions
- Employee Social Security: 6.5 % by default, capped at the maximum contribution base.
- IRPF estimated with the approximate general scale, the employment income reduction and the personal allowance.
- Regional deductions, children, disability, relocation and the Basque/Navarre tax regimes are not included.
- Parameters change every year; check the assumptions' date.
Frequently asked questions
Why doesn't it match my payslip?
Your employer uses your full personal situation and may adjust the withholding during the year. Use “I know it” with your payslip percentage for a closer result.
Is the withheld tax what I'll actually pay?
Not exactly: withholding is an advance. The annual tax return settles the final amount and you get a refund or pay the difference.
Does it work for the self-employed?
No. Self-employed workers contribute by income bands and are taxed differently.
