What it does: PNG, JPG and WebP converter

Change an image's format when a website, app or form only accepts PNG, JPG or WebP. Conversion happens on your device and you can set the quality for lossy formats.

If the image has transparency and you convert it to JPG, the tool warns you and lets you pick the background colour, because JPG can't store transparency.

How to use it

  1. Choose or drag in the image to convert.
  2. Select the target format.
  3. Adjust the quality and, for JPG, the background colour.
  4. Press Convert and download the result.

Examples

A WebP your app won't open

Convert a WebP downloaded from a website to PNG or JPG to edit it in older software.

Logo with a transparent background

To keep the transparency, convert it to PNG or WebP; as JPG the background will be filled with the chosen colour.

Limits, formulas and assumptions

  • JPG has no transparency: transparent pixels are filled with the chosen background colour (white by default).
  • Converting a JPG to PNG doesn't restore lost quality; it only changes the container and usually increases the size.
  • Some older browsers can't create WebP files; you'll see a warning if so.
  • Animated GIFs are converted using only the first frame.

Frequently asked questions

Which format is best for the web?

Generally WebP: every current browser supports it and it's smaller at similar quality. For maximum compatibility with older software, JPG or PNG.

Why does my PNG have a white background after converting to JPG?

Because JPG doesn't store transparency. Pick a different background colour, or convert to WebP if you need to keep it.

Do I lose quality when converting?

Not to PNG. For lossy JPG and WebP it depends on the quality you choose; at 90 % the difference is minimal.
