Paste both versions and you'll see the differences instantly.

What it does: Compare text

Find what changed between two versions of a contract, an essay, a letter or a snippet of code. Additions are underlined and deletions struck through, in a single easy-to-read text.

Compare by words (usual for prose), by lines (lists, code, config files) or by letters (typos). It uses the same algorithm as git, and everything runs in your browser.

How to use it

  1. Paste the original version on the left and the new one on the right.
  2. Choose to compare by words, lines or letters.
  3. Check the differences: underlined is new, struck through was removed.
  4. Use “Swap” to see the changes the other way round.

Examples

Reviewing a contract

Paste the draft you sent and the one sent back: you'll instantly see whether a deadline or an amount was changed.

Finding a typo

By letters, “received” versus “recieved” marks only the swapped i and e.

Limits, formulas and assumptions

  • By words, the exact whitespace between words isn't counted as a change, but the whole text is shown.
  • With texts over 30,000 characters, comparison runs when you press the button so typing stays smooth.
  • If the texts are almost completely different, it is shown as a full replacement.
  • The text is neither sent to a server nor stored.

Frequently asked questions

Which mode should I use?

Words for ordinary text; lines for lists, code or copied tables; letters to find typos in short sentences.

Can I compare Word or PDF documents?

Copy the text from each document and paste it here. Formatting (bold, tables) isn't compared, only the text.

Is it case-sensitive?

Yes: “House” and “house” count as a change.

Is it private?

Yes. The comparison runs in your browser and nothing leaves your device.
