What it does: QR code generator

A QR code is an image any phone camera can read to open a link or show some text. This generator creates it instantly in your browser and lets you download it as PNG (ideal for web and social media) or SVG (vector, perfect for printing at any size).

Besides links and text, you can create codes that join a Wi-Fi network, save a contact (vCard), compose an email, call a number or send an SMS. Codes are static: the content lives inside the image, never expires and doesn't go through any redirect server.

How to use it

  1. Choose whether to encode a link or free text.
  2. Type the content. For a link, include https:// at the start.
  3. Adjust size, error correction level and colors if needed.
  4. Download the code as PNG or SVG and test it with your phone camera before printing.

Examples

Restaurant menu

Paste the link to your PDF menu, choose correction level Q and download as SVG to print on tables without losing sharpness.

Contact details on a business card

Use text mode to include your name, phone and email. When scanned, the phone shows the text so it can be copied.

Guest Wi-Fi

Choose Wi-Fi, enter the network name and password and print the code: guests connect by pointing their camera at it, no typing needed.

Limits, formulas and assumptions

  • Maximum capacity: about 2,953 bytes at level L and 1,273 at level H. Accented characters and emoji take more than one byte.
  • Higher error correction lets the code be read even when partly damaged, but makes it denser.
  • For reliable scanning, use a dark color on a light background and leave a margin (2 modules or more).
  • Codes are generated on your device with the open-source “qrcode” library (MIT licence).
  • Formats used: WIFI: for networks, vCard 3.0 for contacts, mailto: for email, tel: for calls and SMSTO: for messages, all read by iOS and Android cameras.

Frequently asked questions

Do QR codes expire?

No. The content is inside the image and does not depend on our site, so it works as long as the link it points to exists.

PNG or SVG?

PNG for screens, documents and social media. SVG for print and posters, because it's a vector and scales without losing quality.

Can I change the link after printing?

Not with a static code: changing the content changes the image. If you need flexibility, point to a page of yours that you can update.
